So what would be better, working at Google or working at Facebook?
I was thinking Facebook. Really because they seem less pretentious. I wonder how accurate that sentiment is.
I interviewed at Groupon a while back. It went ok but there was this joker who drilled me on finding the square root of a number without using a square root function. I quasi-sarcastically answered the exponent of the value to 1/2. He didn’t like it. At first I thought he wanted me to solve this through bit operations then later it become obvious he was looking for a binary search tree. How it went worse was when he repeated the question but for floating point numbers. After we labored through that I asked him a question, how well do you get along with people? He raised his eyes and seemed surprised at the question. I was highly skeptical of a job there afterwards. I don’t know how Groupon felt.
So I wonder where the good places are to work right now. Facebook came to mind has pretty hot and beyond the “Social Network” I really don’t know much about it on the inside.
